Digital Organizing
In 2023, I joined up with Citizens for Central York School District as a candidate for school board and organizer. I wanted to make sure my local school board wasn’t overrun with extremists that would discriminate against students and interfere with their freedom to read.
In 2021, board members allied with those extremists banned hundreds of books and resources by black and LGBT authors and about black and LGBT characters. They banned biographies of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rosa Parks. A coordinated effort by protestors, teachers, students, parents, and Citizens for Central York School District overturned the ban and elected a new board.
In 2023, our opponents attempted a new ban of two more books. One of my opponents running for the board initiated the challenge that led to this new ban. We knew that in order to get our pro-education slate elected, we had to build upon the work our team accomplished in 2021. That meant I got a crash course in digital and on-the-ground organizing.
Since our victory in 2023, I’ve continued working with Citizens for CYSD to manage their strategic communications and digital organizing for the 2025 campaign.
Here’s how i helped our entire slate win:
- My team and I developed a highly strategic in-house voter targeting universe to make over 48,000 contacts, collecting 4,000 support IDs using NGP VAN and raising $90,000.
- I designed social media content to post on multiple platforms and wrote digital calls to action.
- I personally knocked 1000+ doors to mobilize the district community into action, working with running mates and volunteers that knocked thousands more.
I’m experienced with NGP VAN and Votebuilder software as well as tools such as Scale2Win, MiniVAN. I’ve since worked on Citizens for CYSD’s 2025 campaign and with other nonpartisan organizations and initiatives to hone my graphic design skills, maintaining an active social media calendar via Buffer, Canva Suite and other utilities.
